The amazing part about so many seeing this drought coming was the dumb things they did if they saw it coming. Why didn't folks use less NH3, why did folks not put down less fertilizer, why didn't folks plant about half of the normal population at seeding time, why didn't folks no till and save fuel and multiple passes over acres? Amazingly enough so many saw this crop failure coming and yet foolishly ran up expenses. Where is the logic in that? I couldn't imagine wasting that amount of capital knowing you were headed for a crop failure because it was dry last year and we had record warmth this spring. With that being said, I think the smoke blowing needs to stop concerning weather and what actions were taken in putting this crop in. It seems to me the counterproductivity tells me you didn't know diddly about what was coming or you have little idea on how to manage risk if you did.

djm, I have no axe to grind with you, but you seem to be awful bearish for the past year!

You & I had a couple of posts months ago, about farmers putting forth their best effort... (You can look it up, I don't have time.)

Why would you not put forth your best effort regardless? You would still have to use the right amounts for crop insurance?

I'm not sure the crop insurance agent would look too kindly about doing half of everything?

I see no "smoke blowing" concerning people predicting adverse weather over a crop of 96 million acres effecting average yield?

With marginal ground being put in production, 2nd year corn, and the amount of quality corn seed to cover that 96 million... (ie: getting the varieties you want or need...)

You bet, others & I questioned a 164/bu average yield.

I do not know your position/or if you have a postion in this market... (I make no accusations.)

However, there seems to be a lot trying to "talk down" this market; despite the fundamentals stating otherwise!
