| The beautiful thing about this concept, Matt, is that you are using the same type of device to sense the soil as you are using on the implement. Our thought is that soil is a highly complex material and this will allow us to negate many of the non linear properties. A property like bulk density does not uniquely correlate with hardness. What about those southern soils where you will have a very tight, dry, crusted surface and softer moist soil underneath. I am not sure ultrasonics could readily determine the difference between standing water and compacted soil, either. The lure of producing very high margin, low cost, all electronic solutions is attractive to some. Like in all our product lines it isn't the game we play. We aren't afraid to have a little steel involved. | |
