Guymon, OK
This year was my first wheat crop. I planted my two fields of dryland last September with absolutely no moisture, received just enough rain to get it up, a good snow in December, and a couple decent rains in the late winter, and by March I had the potential for a great crop. But then it turned hot and dry in April and everything burned up. I ended up with single-digit yields. It's disheartening, but there isn't a lot a guy can do about it except start planning for the next crop. On the plus side, the fields are clean and there is enough residue to hold the soil, and since the stubble is so short it will be super easy to no-till into this fall. I also have a good stand of dryland milo, so hopefully that will help balance things out.

When you start at the bottom, the only direction is up.
