Subject: RE: Future of agriculture in the South?

For me the way I see it! I am 30 and live in SE NC. Agriculture has always been my passion. I started with two cows. We have a non ag based family business that is pretty much carring itself now. I have ben able devote more time to my true calling. I currently work 300 acres of row crops and have also increased the cow heard to 25 momma cows. What I see is there are no young people entering the field. It is nearly impossible to rent more ground in my area. I have run ads in the papers, ask everybody I meet. I could definetly raise rents and get it that way but dont want to go that route. Its hard for landowners to take a chance on a "rookie" when a paticular farmer has worked their ground for years. Everybody will loan you $$ to buy equipment but that does no good without the acrege. So to me the biggest challenge is renting land and not pissing people off. Dont want alot hopefully one day I will make my goal of 1000 acres.

Sam
