Subject: The big players rule

The big players rule--or do they?

It's been said the "big boys" make the markets do whatever they want them to do. I think this is often true. Yet, the big boys cannot control market movements due to "acts of God." Hailstorms, flooding, drought, etc. Too, what about the "big boys" on the other side of the market?

If the big oil guys want to stop the ethanol boom (and do they really?) they have both political parties to fight. Also, and easy to forget, "big oil" is not the only big money in this country. Read recently where Cargill and Tyson Foods are getting into the biofuel business so the big boys are on both sides of the biofuel issue. ADM (Archer Daniels Midland) has been making large profits from ethanol for several years. They even hired a high level executive with many years of experience in the oil business.

I think ethanol and biodiesel--and excellent crop prices-- may be around a lot longer than many farmers think.

Have a cousin-farmer who says 4 dollars corn can't last. If the input providers, and farm machinery manufacturers, keep raising their prices maybe 4 dollar corn will have to last so the farmer can afford to farm !
