Hay Wilson in TX

Subject: Wait a little while

Little River, TX
Wait until the top inch of the soil is dry then put out the fertilizer, unless you are sure it will rain again in a few hours.

After the ground is dry then the fertilizer will be stable and even on dry soil will be of benefit.

Farmer near Canton, TX had an agreement with the local fertilizer dealer to apply fertilizer to the pastures every 3 weeks. Some time or another their daily milk production was decreasing. There had not been any fertilizer put out in over 4 weeks. The dealer came right out and in 3 days the daily milk production started to climb.

As you probably know that is on real sandy soil. Here in the blackland clay soil, I apply all my nitrogen, 350 to 400 lbs/A, to the bermudagrass in December or January. After a few years in this program I can miss a whole years nitrogen and not loose any hay production.
