Subject: RE: Mechanical guidance?

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I have a DVD of a Reichardt PSR system that a local dealer sells. There are apparently several combinations of various sensors and steering devices.

For a corn combine, it used a mechanical sensor that went under one snout of the corn head and sensed the bases of two adjoining rows. The sensor and electronic system was tied into a Trimble EZ-Steer motor to steer the combine. The dealer claimed that this combination worked well in downed corn two years ago.

There were several other scenarios such as sensing the actual track of a conventional marker (didn't seem to me like that would work very well) for planting and even sensing on last year's rows for no-till.

I think they even had a sensor for sensing standing crop for mowing situations where the next pass was dictated by the edge of the standing crop from the previous pass.

I saw the actual German display and the DVD - that's about all I know about it.
