Subject: RE: Trimble manual

Centre county Pennsylvania, USA
We mounted EZ antenna level with tractor on cab roof, about 6" ahead of windshield. EZ seems to work well with that mounting position. I don't think level is all that important, tractor is never level in our hilly fields, not unusual to have roll or pitch angle greater than elevation mask angle. EZ doesn't seem to drop GPS sats when tractor roll or pitch angle is significantly greater than elevation mask angle. I think elevation mask must be computed from GPS data, not from tractor roll or pitch angle. I don't know how the WAAS signal stays locked when roll or pitch is greater than the 11 degree elevation angle for WAAS satellite here, but it almost always does stay locked here in (very) hilly terrain. Only time we loose WAAS is when we are operating near tree line to our southwest, then it's only momentary loss. All in all, EZ has been a very reliable assisted steering system here, as good as the DGPS receiver. We are considering trying Coast Guard beacon as WAAS replacement, our fields are all within 20 miles radius from a CG DGPS beacon station.
