Subject: RE: Case Ih 5500 soybean specials

West Union, Illinois

First question is where are you seeing the hitch welded at so I can go check mine?

I have mixed feelings on the 5500. I love the IH openers. Our has the SI beltmeters which work great unless you have big beans. Really big beans don't feed well. I like the ground clearance during transport. I like the big seed hopper

So much for the likes. My biggest problem with the 5500 is (in my opinion) the crew that designed it needs horsewhipped. The openers are so far behind the meters that you get bunching problems. (That doesn't seem to bother you from what you said, but it bugs me.)   The transport wheels are so far forward of the seed box there is a tremendous negative weight on the drawbar. I farm a lot of light soils and have had trouble on sand. When I lift the drill it pulls so much weight off the tractor rear wheels they lose traction in the soft dirt. This drill really should have a FWA tractor on it. It would be a great application for a 2+2.

The IH markers look like a joke. Our dealer doesn't even offer them. They get them without markers and add Yetters.

I agree with you planter philosophy. If I am going to be oversized I want it to be the planter. I started at noon one day and planted 110 acres before dark.

I went to the CNH website and did a search for 5500's ( http://www.caseih.com/usedequipment/locator.aspx?strLink=http://www... ) Prices range from high $30's on down. Farm Pride (http://www.farm-pride.com/) has a really good looking 2002 at Arthur. It says it is used but it sure looks new.
