The coulters were causing uneven planting depth. If you think about it, there is a lot less ground contact with the offset disk opener by itself than using a wavy coulter. It did make a difference, as did running at an angle to the stalk rows in planting beans. You might want to try just the openers - almost everyone I ask tells me not to use coulters on the 1200. I should have follwed advice and my instinct when ordering the planter.
