Subject: RE: Stands from the new CIH planter-how does the spacing look?

JUst finished first season with 1200 central fill 16 row with bean units. It planted both notill and conventional corn and notill beans. The planter did good job in notill corn with good stands that have decent spacing. We ran into problems with notill beans and after two days with locals and an afternoon with company man, the unanimous decision was to get rid of the coulters. Eventually we had conference call with Racine and one of their engineers and were told not to use coulters with the planter - wish dealer had told us this before spending all the money. Here are some points that we feel one shold consider:

*the planter is very technical
*you have to have hyd, capacity up the wassu
*everyone from locals to Racine told us to slow down to 5-6 mph
* it will not plant as accurately as White ( I had two 6100 Whites)
*make sure your dealer knows how it should be set up for your operation
*the downpressure springs are a pain to change(they are in the process of changing the set up)
*overall I was not impressed with the planter compared to the White
The 1200 with row boxes may be a whole different animal, so take my comments for whatever they may be worth.
