That with a sand point you are working with the pump at the surface so you are limited in how high you can draw the water.

With a perfect pump at sea level it would be about 34 ft, as you get a less than pefect vacuum and at elevations above sea level, the actual height you can draw water decreases . Most people consider 20-22 ft to be max.

Plus, if you are unlucky enough to have dissolved gases, the effective height can be far less.

If you have a 6'' well as suggested, you can lower a pump down the well and are not restricted in depth.

Or, if you can make the well three times as deep as the depth to water you can use an air flotation pump which works well in a small pipe.
