| In general, we don't have a problem with K build-up here. However, we have intensive rotations of corn and alfalfa. The only times I have seen a build-up of K is where a field is in continuous corn and receives manure every year - or even twice a year.
As for the nitrogen, I try to be conservative when I estimate the amount of nitrogen that comes from manure. I have seen situations where I have calculated the N coming from manure, and it seems the corn crop could use more. In situations where we are relying on manure to supply all the N, I like to use an in-season test to check, to see if additional sidedress N is required - either a PSNT soil test, or a chlorophyll meter. Another option is to use late-season stalk N tests to see how well you did during the year.
