The 158 and 148 are the same width, the 158 is longer. More reach. 15" longer booms. 33" more ground clearance with the bucket dumped. The 158 is 420 pounds heavier than the 148 and has 1100 pounds more breakway and 700 pounds more lift capacity. 1760 vs 1340 (72" vs 60" bucket), 5800 vs 4700, and 3800 vs 3100. The specifications page clearly says: "Mount 148 Loader on John Deere 2520, 3020, 4000, 4020, 4020, 4230, 4320, and 4430 Tractors." "Mount 158 loader on John Deere 4000, 4020, 4230, 4430, 4520, 4620, and 4630 Tractors." The fact either fits a 4020 says width is not the problem but length of tractor probably is a problem along with the 158 is heavier enough to endanger the stock 4020 and smaller tractor front end.

I have two versions of the manual, that I could be persuaded to sell.
