Subject: Re: Alfalfa: RFV, ADF and prices

I am 25 south of NE, halfway between MO and CO. We have not been overly wet although corn and milo look tremendous (beans have suffered). The hay generally has been put up dry (in big round twine tie). My hay is mostly upland, dryland, some has a bit of previous crop residue. Perhaps some was a bit too purple in places even though the tonnage was not tremendous--2.5 to 3 ton total (?) for two cuttings. What I tested is all first and second (after losing the "real" first cutting to the freeze). A creek bottom put up the same way tested considerably better but did not yield any better, if that means anything. The third cutting is pretty minimal and we will need quite a bit of rain to get much of a fourth.
