If you have an extension office nearby get some info from them regarding the average tonnage/acre and approx feed value. It would be better if it was a field that was less than stellar, but convenience for chopping is a factor too. If you can get your landlord to understand there is a lot more value in an acre of silage than there is in an acre of shell corn then you should be able to get a little more, but if you get too greedy it may have repercussions down the road. If you got the value of the shell corn out of it you probably wouldn't be giving up all that much in the long run in exchange for a lot of good will. Be sure you document it with your crop ins agent beforehand. | |
