Cliff - I agree completely - but your statement about the value of spacing is preceeded by that big little word IF. And as my dear departed grandmother used to say "If IFs and BUTs were candy and nuts what a Merry Christmas it would be"

What I want to know is DOES seed spacing make a 2% yield difference? And what sort of imperfect spacing matters vs. what sort doesn't matter? For example I can easily see how large numbers of doubles and skips would have a negative effect on yield. But how about occasional variations of an inch from the ideal? Or 2 inches? I'd like to see some real research on this topic to justify my own expense and trouble. Or are we all chasing after something that really doesn't amount to a hill of beans?
