Subject: RE: synthetic gear lube

JD now or has said for some time to run a synthetic oil in the feederhouse drive box on the lower left side. My 9400 does not have an oil cooler on that gearbox, but I think the 9500 does and I am sure the 9600 does. Even with those coolers they were loosing to many gear boxes.

They say the gearbox does run cooler. I have yet to get my synthetic oil in and running of the combine.

Before the synthetic recommondation, my shop man said to drain that gearbox at the end of every year, even though I am a small farmer. Cheap insurance.

Just an expample of why and where synthetic oil is now used.
