Well, I don't know much about the 89x0 tractors, but a year ago we upgraded from an 8760 on 20.8x38s to a fully ballasted 9400 on 710/70R42s. We've been running a 9300 since 1999 and even with the 710's we put on it this year, without the ballast it is only half the tractor the 9400 is. The 8760's were a dog.........just right for pulling a no-till drill or maybe a 30' light disk, but nothing more. I remember the first day out with the 9400 last fall on the 40' chisel. First thing that comes to mind is after I dropped it most of the way in the ground on a wet slimy day I looked over and I was doing 8 mph with 3% slip............decided I had better back off before I tear the old chisel up. 8760 would have been begging for more power and traction at 5 mph. The 8 shank Brillion was a true test in some of our "gumbo" soils and it seemed to do really well..........best thing I did when pulling that thing was gear up and idle back to 17-1800 RPM. Created a let less slippage that way. We're using the 9400 for full duty this year........corn planter and all. The biggest mistake we made was not waiting a year and buying one of the 9 low houred lease return 9520's the local cealer had this spring. That powershift is SLICK.

The cab's on the 9000 series tractors are far superior to the 60 and 70 series four wheel drives. Get your dealer to bring one out for you to try. Once you get used to the hydraulics/controls you won't want to go back. A mechanic that does some work for us who worked at a Deere dealership for years says JD didn't even make a four wheel drive until they made the 9000 series. With the exception of the Cummins powered 89's, I tend to think he's right.
