We have a White 6100 series that has no row cleaner on it. We put our fertililzer on w/the Dawn 3400 opener which does come equipped w/a floating residue mgr but after the first day of planting we took them off - we thought we'd paid that much for them we would at least try them - no better stand w/them than w/out them. Fertilizer opener works as good as advertised however so no complaints there!!!!
One thing we noticed to get even stands w/had to plant a little deeper. Stands are now as even and consistant as any conventional - biased observation though.
The further north you go, the more important i could see they would be but for us, heat is not a limiting factor for growing a corn crop.
