I've been grinding hay for years thru a tub grinder, I mix sudex hay, alfalfa, brome, wheat straw, oat straw, triticale hay, whatever I had that year, even baled milo stalks. My beef cows have always done fine. Maybe you can grind too fine, I donno about that. Mine isn't quite as small particle as silage. Don't see ground hay should be any different.

I never had any trouble with beards in ground hay, but some say it can cause trouble if fed as bales.
