Subject: Barb wire fence for cattle 5 wire or 4? / self feeding bags/ cattle oiler pic

Driftless SW Wisconsin

I put up some new 5 wire fence this past year but am having a lot of weed problems under it. A neighbor said that if you use 4 wire and leave the bottom wire up a ways they will be able to eat under the bottom wire well enough that you can get the rest with the mower. He suggested just taking the bottom wire off. 4 or 5 wire best? Any problems removing the bottom wire? There is a mix of bull, cows and young calves. This is an outside boundary fence.

He also described a way of self feeding bag silage using electric wire down the sides and a single wire across the bag to limit access. Anyone done that?

Here's also a picture of the cattle oiler that was discussed in a previous post. This stretches across the access lane to the waterer and has really done the job controlling flies.
