Subject: RE: Fencer ground rods

MY question on ground rods,,,,Does it make a difference what the rod is made out of,solid or pipe???

I used a chunk of galvinized old water pipe, think 1/2 inch. BUT 6 or 7 feet long Didnt notice much difference. Used a common stainless steel hose clamp to attach wires to pipe.

All the stores sell 4 or 5' copper ground rods,,,do they work better or worse than gal. pipe???

Had a neighbor that said dont use copper rods they corrode and dont give best contact. he just drove three of those short little metal electric fence posts in ground in foot triangle and poured water in the center. I didnt think much of that either!!

My thinking with the pipe is rain water can get down the middle to make MORE contact, double that of a rod, inside and outside. Valid or all wet???
