Subject: RE: Food byproducts for dairy heifers

Greencastle, Pa.
Talk to a Cargill Feed Rep. Cargill is into "feed byproducts" in a big way. Our cost per day per head on 300+ bred dairy heifers for a by-product supplement [in luau of corn meal and soy meal] is about $.54 cents. Our total cost per head per day cost [including corn silage, haylage, supplement, meneral & T.M. Salt is right at $1.50. The ones we have on pasture [now a joke because of no rain] that were getting a pasture supplement with bakery by-prouducts was costing us [including pasture rent] right at $.77 cents a day. Untill it rains that cost is "out the window" They are now getting about 10lbs of corn silage per head per day along with the supplement which has raised our "per head cost" to about $.92 cents per day for feed.
