Could someone give me a decent explanation of why you should dry down a crop for silage?Isn't the main issue getting as much oxygen out of the pile, ie packing in a bag or a silo as possible? Years ago i read about a direct cut method of using a vacum pump to draw as much air out of a pile as possible, has anyone tried this method?
