Subject: K def & Corn Varaity

Berlin, Germany
following up a thread 2 pages down where a member mentioned that certain Pioneer strains show K def. symtoms.
Bear in mind that there is a high correlation of individual uptake ability in each varaity.
Excample:
We have a certain wheat, out of the '80's with best milling abilities. One big problem this wheat has and that's if somewhere in Germany the first fungi are attacking the wheat, you can bet on it, this wheat will be getting it. Even if the whole area isn't showing any infestation.
Now they did a trail and added a certain Nutrient, micronutrient in this case, to the plant. Shure enough the plants stayed healthy as they could be.
This varaity has a weakness to in taking up a certain nutrient.
Guess what? This was never mentioned to the farmers, easier to sell with fungizides as sprays which have a higher profit margin than micronutrients.
Consequence out of this? We do a lot of tissue sampling when we do fertiliser trials and it's astounding what we find out.

This tissue samples are much cheaper than to spray. In spraying you are fighting the effect but you are not curing the cause.
