New Mexico | the light use rule is not accurate.
btw also depends on how many acres and how rough that country is where running cows
...this is not an issue in farm country.
They've either got it. Or they do not.
That simple...if hard use gonna burn em out...then burn em out sooner rather than let em burn out on you as 2 years olds. MO.
If the bull shows a real good pituitary system...like the red poll bull does...and has the "libido" look ( which he really does )...decent set of nuts...right size to handle rough stuff and bounce without getting crippled, as a 2 year old I would figure that bull will breed 40 to 50 cows..no problem.
In other countries they run libido tests, turn a young bull in with cows in heat and time how many he breeds.
Probably the one of the most accurate fertility tests...is how many cows they'll handle in a given timed event..like that.
Also...in alot of thos areas...their goal is 1,500 to 1,600 lb mature bulls ( not the real big mature bulls ).
Reason is in big rough country, size is what prematurely cripples the big cattle.
Smaller is more agile. that simple.
