We have a miller 251 and all we've ever had is .035. I have seen .030 in a muffler shop for welding exhaust pipe. I used .035 to hard surface some ripper points this year it worked pretty good, not as well as a dedicated "hard surface" rod. Ill probably do it again. It was nice to be able to just weld one side to the other end to end never change rods or look up it goes a lot quicker.
