Iowa

I would not be so sure he is simply avoiding the possibility of getting beat by a girl.  Getting to state is a huge deal in Iowa.  These guys (mostly guys I guess) train long and hard year round for the chance to live that dream.  Many have been doing so since early grade school.  Getting beat is an awful experience no matter what.  Trust me on this one.  It does not really matter who it is, getting beat is not an acceptable option in any case, ever, period.  Yet, by the time most wrestlers get to state, they have faced and suffered defeat several times.  They learn to deal with it, and would not likely let fear of defeat, even to a girl compromise a life long dream at that point in their lives.

Of course there is a possibility you could be right.  I think his stated reasons are much more believable given the nature of this event.  Either way, neither of us know for sure.

It's an interesting story, and it's not over yet.   Northrup has won his first match in the consolation bracket.
