Iowa

I guess we will never know for sure.  Another news article I read somewhere said the two were matched together during the regular season.  He also refused to wrestle that match.  It was a dual meet, so the Linn Mar coach moved his 103 pounder up to wrestle the 112 lb girl.  The girl lost by fall.

There was another 112 lb girl that made it to state this year.  She is now out having lost her first two mathces.  Both girls took second in districts to advance to state.

Wrestling is a tough and brutal sport.  Anyone, male or female, who competes well at it has a measure of respect from me.  There were no girls wrestling when I was.  The idea of wrestling a girl would have seemed wrong at more than one level.  Still, I can't imagine any of the girls from my class being competitive with the guys in this sport.
