Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
When setting up a "new" product you have the choice of entering in a "pure" product or a mix.

For spray mixtures you would often set up the mix that you are going to use. The wizard walks you through the ingredient mix for the mixture. This sets up the various ratios of the products in the mixture so that the system can give you product totals.

You might have a product called "WaterRupAMS" which would consist of water, Roundup and AMS. You would define the various amounts used to make a batch and this information is saved under the product named WaterRupAMS.

Any time you choose that product, the system will then be able to correctly compute the amount of Water, Rup and AMS that are applied. This will give the correct totals for the various components of the mix.

This is all under the assumption that you continue to mix all batches in the same ratio as defined originally. Mixing a partial batch is not a problem as along as you maintain the original ratios defined in the product mix. For example, if only a half batch is needed, you would only use half of each product. Since the ratios are maintained, things will work out fine.

We had a different customer who said this didn't work correctly for him. It turns out he was changing the ratios of Rup/Water for different batches. He said they would often "stretch" the water to make a field come out correctly. For example, if the sprayer had enough water for a 60 acre field but they had 80 acres to do, they would cut back the spray rate but put in enough Rup for the 80 acres. This should result in the correct amount of Rup being applied.

This is true but they would need to create a different product that correctly related the ratios for this new mix. My reply was "If the reduced water rate is sufficient for the 80 acre field, Why don't you always use that mixture for all fields?" He replied "Well, we've always done it that way".

In his case having two mixtures would not be very complicated. Have one called 60 acre batch and another called 80 acre batch. He would need to chose the appropriate mixture that was being used.

Remember, the flowmeter is measuring the amount of the mixture that is passing through and it is up to you to inform the system of the ratios of the various components.

By the way - These mixtures are identified by the Ying-Yang ICON in your product list. This is to help you differentiate between mixtures and pure products.
