North Mo. | On most of the so called gentic improvements there is a cost. I used to go for it but over the past few years it seems I get paid more for traits that are cost effective rather than production. For instance I bought a bull out of a 16 year old cow, even the breeder thought very little of him. He didn't have any high epd's or muscling just a avg. bull except for one thing, he stays in good condition year arround on grass only or hay if no grass. That is the trait I want transfered to my cow herd each and every time I select heifers. Unfortunatley it took me 30 years to figure that out. May be I am just getting old and lazy but I want my cattle to work for me and not the other way arround. Ben | |
