northwest tennessee | I would really doubt that it would be worth it if you are not selling breeding stock. I used to do what you are doing with the bulls and having to buy bulls sooner than I wanted to but have started breeding the heifers back to their sire. My vet told me to do it and they do it alot in the registered cattle to build on traits. They call it line breeding. Where you would get in trouble is if you saved a calf out of the heifer and bred it to the sire. You can breed like that once but dont go twice. I have been doing this for about 4 years now with no problems. I try to buy the best bulls that I can afford so they dont come cheap and I need to get more mileage out of them. Just my two cents. | |
