Don, just got home from seeding. Nice to deal with some moisture for a change. I'm not going to complain about mud ever again. To answer your ?? on pasture rent, there was a time just a few years ago you could rent all the grass you wanted for around $10. an acre or $14-15 a pair per mo. Good pasture here for a 5 mo. grazing season requires 10-12 acres up to 20 acres in some spots per pair. I've heard of grass the last few years going as high as $30+ an acre. When cattle are high everyone wants to be a cowboy.
I don't know how this would work for you, but last year a few producers caked their cows everyday with about 2 lbs. and that really helped to stretch their pastures. Over the long haul and for the health of your pastures it is always better to keep numbers in line with grass. Remember the most important part of your pastures you never see, that's the root system. Grass needs time to rest to develope a good root.
