Subject: EZ Steer issues......

Eastern Iowa
Dealer wasn't able to get Autopilot installed on our four wheel drive Ford this spring so we are still at the mercy of running the EZ Steer with Omnistar for striptilling this spring. EZ Steer, EZ Guide Plus, and Trimble 252 receiver are all up to date. T2 seems to be working fine as well. We took the time to get the system dialed in real well and it seemed to be working as well as can be expected as it typically showed an offline error of 0"-2" on day one. Day two comes around and it won't hold an AB line to save its life. All calibration settings in the EZ Guide Plus including aggressiveness, angle/turn, wheel diameter, antenna to axle offset, implement offset, T2 calibration..... are all the same. Point is, no settings were changed from day one to day two. Same field conditions, the same terrain, pulling the same implement, going back and forth across the field in the same direction (east and west) and it seems like a totally different animal. It will show on the EZ Guide Plus that it is 6", 7",8", 9", 10" offline before it really starts to come back online. Turning around, you can easily confirm that it is indeed drifting noticably further offline. Also, the EZ Steer seems to be steering the tractor in a VERY jerky violent fashion as opposed to the nice smooth steering it did the first day. I know it takes patience to get this thing running smooth but it seems as if you have to babysit it on a daily basis to keep it running smooth, almost like your starting over from scratch every morning when you jump in the cab. We finally gave up on the thing and just used the gauge marks like the good old days. We did keep an eye on the EZ Guide Plus lightbar which did seem to be accurate, just that the EZ Steer could follow the lighbar. We are doing straight AB lines so its not as if we are asking the thing to snake around the field in some weird fashion. Please tell me that the Autopilot is going to be an improvement....
