Columbia City, Indiana | All the sheep guys posting here have me wondering... what's the best sheep breed for disposition and mothering ability?
I have a good friend who has a small (20 ewes) flock, he said he likes white faced sheep best, he thinks black faced sheep are too high strung and in some cases aggressive. Most of his ewes are white faced but his ram is a suffolk because he likes crossbred animals.
But just like cattle, I'm sure there are devotees of each breed who like their breed because it's their breed.
So what characteristics do you look for in breeding stock and what breed or breeds make the best sheep for commercial purposes? Is there a combination that is relied on in sheep like black baldies in cattle? | |
