Subject: RE: Start To Finish, A Flock Of Heavy Hen Turkeys

Ozark, Arkansas
we've been fortunate over the past 3 or 4 winters, we haven't had to light any fires after the birds moved over to the growouts. of course we probably have a warmer winter, our natural gas has gone up enough over the last few years to make up for it though,
we grew for Honeysuckle White for 4 years, Butterball when Conagra owned it and now Butterball with Smithfield. It's a seperate company now just called Butterball. the worst was With Conagra, we almost starved to death just trying to raise the poults they brought us, most of them should have been thrown in a dumpster somewhere. the poults have really improved since Smithfield took over, we now get gas money, not all paid but at least enought to pay most of it. before we got very, very little gas money. the poults have improved, a lot, we're starting to get good numbers for our first week mortality,
we get 32,000 birds each delivery, 16,000 in each brooder house, 40' x 330' and our growout houses have 8,000 each in 4 growouts 40' x 440'
we keep our birds to about 12 weeks to 13 weeks, they weigh 13 to 15.5 lbs. Butterball grows big hens but all those are grown up around Springdale, Ar.
