This isn't a 4H project as the kids are not involved. Just wanting to teach a little more (cheap) responsibility and have something for the table too. The dual purpose thing interests me. If the kids don't do their part, we'll just butcher the whole lot of them. If they carry through, we'd like enough eggs to make it worth our time. Any experience with other breeds, good or bad??
Ok, on the cornish rocks, if you aren't trying to show them, when would be a good age to butcher?? I've heard anywhere from 6 to 10 weeks. I suppose it depends on how big a carcass you want, but these will probably get cut up and fried, maybe oven roasted.
Another dumb question, how old do hens have to be to lay eggs??
