Along with what has already been mentioned, your will want to check the midrollers for leaking seals. Scraper tractors usually start to chip away the rubber on the midrollers, but if the rubber is not gone, they may still last a long time in ag field conditions. Take oil samples of the transmission and rear end. If it was serviced at a CAT dealer, an oil sample history may be available from them. On '98-'00 machines you may want to check to see if the engine has had the wrist pin retainer updates done. I believe the updated wrist pin retainers were installed from the factory in late 2000.
