Subject: RE:Sugar Beet Planter

Stearns County, Minnesota
Here in Minnesota the JD 71 Flexi planter was used in planting sugar beets. Sugar beets are generally planted in 22" rows. The JD 1200 series, pull type, you could not get down to a 22" row setting. The JD 71 Flexi planting units were mounted to a tool bar, as many units as you wanted, and set for 22" row. The Red River Valley (in Minnesota) is where most of the sugar beets are/were raised, and at that time did not grow alot of corn and soybeans, but would use them for corn and soybeans if they planted some acres of corn or soybeans. The bulk of the corn and soybeans, in Southern Minnesota, was planted with the JD 1200 pull type planter. When Deere came with Max-Emerge planters in 1973?, they had the 7000 (pull type) and the 7100 (mounted) planters. The sugar beet growers would then buy the 7100 planter when they updated.
