A few years back we built a weight fram to go on the front of a CIH 9230. Used 3/4" gr. 8 bolts. Ran the tractor 4 years & never broke a bolt. 1/2" would be way too light for 800# of weight IMO, 5/8" may get you by but with good drill bits it's not that much more to go to 3/4". I'd rather have overkill than be sorry & have something break when you're planting.
