U.S. bone-in beef should return to Korea, trade ministry official says

In a series of radio interviews Monday, a Korean trade ministry official said that Korea will resume imports of U.S. bone-in beef if the World Organization for Animal Health designates the United States as a "controlled risk" region for bovine spongiform encephalopathy, as is expected in late May.
"If the United States becomes a controlled-risk country," the official said, "we should resume exports of U.S. beef, except for specified risk materials, and meat of cattle under 30 months, except for the parts of the small intestine and tonsils. That means that Galbi (ribs) will be imported."
An official with the Agriculture Ministry told the Chosun Ilbo, "We can't rule out demand [from the U.S. government} to import beef of cattle over 30 months of age."
