Ropes come in a lot of different variations. For tagging calves on the ground choose a poly rope around a 9.5 they are light and fast. It is very hard to rope calves with a stiff rope that was designed for heeling. If you are serious about roping better there are videos that will definately help you. Learning the basic fundamentals and dynamics are relatively easy. I taught my father to rope on the ground and he is left handed and 45 yrs old. In a matter of weeks he could rope calves on the ground very well. It is an invaluable skill to have even if you don't use a horse.
