Subject: RE: What about STORAGE???

Northeast Louisiana
That's the question that a lot of people are asking down here. Most of the elevators have already contracted all the corn they can hold, so they are accepting any more bookings.
There are bins going up everywhere. Dry corn can be piled on the ground here during the summer harvest, and it has been in years past, but it can't be stored that way uncovered all winter, just for a month or two.
Some of the cotton warehouses are being modified to store corn. With GMO conaminated rice fiasco, there will be less rice planted and some of the storage used for rice will be filled with corn.
The Mississippi River ports load out a lot of rice, but if there is a dry summer up north and the river levels are low, then barges can only be half loaded, which really puts everything in a bind. The New Orleans port hasn't been at full capacity since Katrina anyway.
So yeah, there's going to be a mess down here. I'm glad we have storage!
