| Bob;
I agree; let Brazil produce all the ethanol they want.
I do not agree," drop the tarriffs".
It makes no sense to substitute a dependance upon cheap Brazilian ethanol for a dependance of mideast oil. What's to prevent a Chavez style gov. in Brazil?
The purpose of the tariff is to foster a renewables industry here within the USA.
If Wall street/Europe/WTO wants to invest in Brazilian ethanol ; fine. I don't recall WTO nor Brazil investing in our renewables industry.
Perhaps; someday I too will write a letter to the Washington Post.
Anyways; I'm a little leary of what Sen. Lugar is proposing;

especially , when I come to this line; " Call for a study of political and economic impacts of the tariff on ethanol and the impacts of repealing or modifying it."
I am more in agreement with what Sen. Thune has to say,"
It makes no sense to replace one source of foreign energy with another " .

"Sen. Thune was right to point out that a purpose in increasing ethanol production is decreasing dependence on foreign energy sources.
Let's just be sure that we keep our eyes on that prize."
Sincerely; J&S / Illinois
