Martinsville, Ohio | This farm was over run by rats and mice when we bought it. After lots of time and money, hundreds of dollars as you indicate, a stray cat wondered onto the place last summer. She will rub your leg but won't let you touch her.
She has had two litters of kittens and the last batch is 5 black cats. I can't even get a good picture of them they are so wild.
Bottom line is problem is solved. No mice in the house now and no fresh rat holes. Buy a big bag of cat food for $14 every two months to keep them going and a water pan out.
You can do a search for rotating rat baits and find the list of chemicals and trade names for them which you must rotate to be effective but my solution worked best for me.
