Ditto on Wheat Farmer's comments. If you want it tight, buy yourself a wire grip. It grips the wire while you pull with a come-a-long. I'd forget the spring idea-but I'm a lineman used to the stuff(But NOT 7/8inch. Guys at work say it's a b**ch.) You better have SOLID end posts. Or, anchor with your guy wire...
I'd walk away from a pile of guy wire not on a spool...
If any is in a spool or coil and held together with steel strap, SECURE IT BEFORE CUTTING THE STRAP!
