SW KS, near Dodge City
It's been a while since we've run cattle extensively but here's my experience:

1. No idea. Probably scrap prices by weight.

2. Not to heavy. Probably the same stuff we had, and I wouldn't go any smaller.

3. Splices suck. If at all possible avoid these. If not possible you could probably just use 2 or 3 cable clamps and lay the cables together & tighten the snot out of the clamps.

4. You need some super-heavy duty springs to keep it tight. On a long run it's tough to keep tight.

5. I'd put clips on. Running it through the pip would work, but that would create a bad wear point when cattle are rubbing on it.

6. Narrower is better. If it's very wide at all, they'll get their head and neck through there and stretch the cable out. Pretty soon they'll be crawling through it like it's just a convenient scratcher.

My thoughts.

Phil
