The normal % of planted to harvested is 90.5 (Bad Year) to 91 1/2 to 92% (normal year) Most of this slippage is corn for silage, but some loss of harvested acres is drown out or drought or hail loss. Of the added acres this year the % harvested will be higher as the demand for silage is mostly constant with the exception of drought or real poor corn more acres are needed for same tons of silage. Short hay or expensive hay makes a small change. I have all the faith in the world that US farmers when given the incentive (some times with out) will over produce. It is our natural response. With CRC at the 75% level giving us a profit it is hard to believe that we won't have more acres. I think that the USDA sand bagged the corn belt acres increase to make sure that we have more corn to satisfy the demand. Most of the southern acres are already planted so they didn't sand bag those.
