Subject: RE: Raven Smartraxx Auto steering... Is it Ok?

Calgary, AB, Canada
As usual, in this situation there is no black and white. There are some machines that do not perform as well as others with Smartrax, but overall, it will hold it's own against any other unit, and surpass the low end autosteers. The JD ATU, performs well in some cases (mainly green installs), and does not meet with customer satisfaction in others. There is not a simgle product made by any manufacturer (Trimble, JD, Raven, AutoFarm, SatLoc, Outback, etc.) that will work perfectly 100% of the time. Anyone who makes those claims, especially salesmen, should be ignored.

To answer the original question from the poster... Smartrax will work fine in most situations. Make sure you have a dealer that knows his product, spend as many$$ on the receiver as possible, and you will be just fine. A good dealer should be able to show you some of his installs, that are comprable to what you want to do. As well, in my experience... many A/S issues can be traced back to poor quiality GPS units that were undersold for the intended use. You can only steer as good as your GPS.

The same holds true for every brand. Choose your dealer carefully, ask for references, spend $$ on GPS, and enjoy your purchase!!
